Handmade Shibori Indigo Dyed Cotton Queen Quilt India

Sale price$399.00

This piece was purchased directly from the Gujurat studios of Sufiyan Khatri, an internationally acclaimed expert in natural dyed block printing. Recently Sufiyan has expanded his textiles to include Shibori - tie dye. This Shibori quilt is died with natural dyes. The patterning is a flowing design with many shades of indigo blue. The back side is solid deep blue. 100% cotton with a lightweight cotton batting inside.

To achieve the watery shibori pattern on this quilt, artisans pleat the cloth in crisp accordion folds. The cloth is wrapped around a pipe and dipped in and out of indigo vats, oxidizing the fabric until the desired shade is achieved. Once the cloth is unfurled, the irregular water-like pattern is revealed. It’s then pieced & hand stitched, using a solid indigo-dyed cloth on the back side making this quilt reversible. The results are exquisite, a one-of-a-kind piece with its very own waves of indigo serene tones. Giving this centuries old technique a modern twist.

The quilt is hand stitched to secure the batting and the finished edge is also hand stitched. Colors shades of rust and white.
