Handwoven Runner Kilim Afghanistan (3x7) - 023

Sale price$439.00

Handwoven wool Kilim rug from Turkmen artisans of the Mazir-Sharif region in Afghanistan. These rugs are a traditional technique with geometric designs and motifs, and are both durable and reversible.

With a 'no-waste' approach to weaving, the women incorporate pieces of yarn scraps from other weaving work to create these rugs. Rug weaving and farming are the only means rural women have to earn an income.

This collection comes to us from the same group as the Turkmen felted rugs and we feel honored to represent these talented and hard working weavers.

Handwoven dense flat weave, 100% wool and mostly natural dyes with fringe on both ends.

Turkmen Kilim Weavers Weaving

In the heart of rural Afghanistan, a rich tapestry of tradition and resilience is woven. Turkmen artisans, both men and women within the cooperative, meticulously craft one-of-a-kind Kilims. Sourcing wool from local sheep herders, men hand dye the yarn while women take the lead on the sorting, spinning, and everything else - preserving centuries-old techniques. Each Kilim, a masterpiece woven on traditional looms, reflects the unique artistry and heritage of the Turkmen people.
