Natural Sisal Star Large Basket Eswatini

Handwoven fiber basket made with natural sisal from sustainably harvested sources. This is from the Tintsaba Weavers, a small artisan organization that has been working in Eswatini (Swaziland) since 1985. Very sturdy. Beautiful on the table or on the wall (it has a small loop on the back for hanging).

Colors: natural white, lime green, kelly green, teal, and dark blue

The basket making process is collaborative, with tasks spread out to various groups. One group is charged with harvesting the sisal, a difficult job as the fronds need to be kept clean in order to accept the dye evenly. They harvest the heart (center) of the sisal plant where the fiber is softer and lighter in color. Then, using a spade, the fronds are separated, ready for spinning.
