Hand Stitched Vintage Banjara Pillow India (17 x 17)
Pillow repurposed from a vintage banjara bag. Banjara bags are used by the semi-nomadic Banjara people of the Kutch. The Hindi word “banjara” means barren, an apt description for the landscape where they live and tend their cattle. (Banjara people are linked linguistically and genetically to modern day Roma people.) As a bag, now pillow, its’ large size would indicate its purpose: to hold tools and other important everyday objects.
An insert (90/10 feather and down) has been sewn inside and the original envelope design with shells functions as the back of the pillow.
